BIOGRAPHY OF WES LAWRENCE

Wes was raised in the Philadelphia area as a son of a Union Bricklayer. After completing high school, he entered his Union Apprenticeship. Since 1955, he has been a member of our Union. Thirty-eight years ago, Wes first served on the Negotiating Committee for PA LOCAL #12. This was the first, in a long series, of the Union positions that Wes has held. While always focused on the advancement of our union and the welfare of its membership, Wes truly began his union leadership by being elected the Secretary/Treasurer of Local #12 in 1974. He continued to be elected to that position for the next ten years. In 1985, he was elected Business Manager and served in that capacity until the Local merged with Local #1 of PA in 1994.

With the enlargement of Local1 of P A, Wes continued to be active in Union leadership. For a year, he was the Secretary/ Treasurer of the new "mega Local". In 1995, he was elected "President and Business Manager" of the new Local1 -PA. During his term in office, he not only upgraded our union facilities, but he continued to increase our union enrollment and the volume of Union

Bricklayer work in the southeastern Pennsylvania region.
In 1997, Local #1 of P A was again merged to create Local1 PA/DE and Wes Lawrence was elected "President and Business Manager". This is a position he held until his retirement. While successfully integrating the individual Locals, he has continued to focus on the future. In January 2000, a new Apprentice Training Building was completed and enrollment is full. Our union benefit and wage scales are increasing while 100% union employment has been maintained.

In addition to providing leadership within our region, Wes has been a delegate to every National Convention and General Board Meeting since 1975. At the Pennsylvania/Delaware State Convention, he has been the Executive Vice President from 1985 to 1995. In 1995 he was elected Regional Vice President representing Region 3 on the I.U. Executive Council.
